National Under-20 midfielder, Dwight Ceballo scored the lone goal as St Anthony’s College eked out a narrow 1-0 win over rivals St Mary’s College in the “Battle of the Saints” encounter in the North Zone of the BG T&T Secondary Schools Football League yesterday.

Ceballo was on spot to head into an open goal after “Saints” goalkeeper Raheem Belgrave failed to hold onto a corner from St Anthony’s midfielder, Jean-Paul Aqui.

With the win, their fourth in-a-row, St Anthony’s dubbed the Westmooring Tigers saw an effort by Andelle Francois crashed off the Saints post in a dominant second-half improved to maximum 12 points from four matches, five ahead of the Saints with only two matches left for both teams.

East Mucurapo stayed in the title hunt with its second straight win, 2-0 over cellar-placed Malick Secondary at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Training Field, Mucurapo.

Alvin Jones, the brother of national defender Joevin Jones and son of Striker Squad member Kelvin Jones scored both goals for Mucurapo to climb to third spot with six points from three matches.

At Fatima Ground, Mucurapo, the host got second-half goals from Andrew Smith, Xavier Rajpaul and Nicholai Solomon to blank previously unbeaten Trinity 3-0.

It was the first win in three matches for Fatima to join idle Queen’s Royal College on three points, while Trinity slipped to fourth, with four points.

Parris fires Naparima to top

Team captain Anthony Parris netted the only goal of the match as perennial champions, Naparima College surged to the top of the South Zone table via a 1-0 win over Vessigny at Mahaica Oval, Point Fortin.

The win pushed Naparima to nine points from four matches, one ahead of previous front-runners, Shiva Boys’ which was held to its second goalless draw, this time by third placed Pleasantville (seven points) at Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

The other match between Princes Town West and Presentation of San Fernando was not played due to an unfit field at Princes Town.

‘Gustine’ held to 2-2 draw by Toco

Defending East Zone and national champion, St Augustine was held to a surprising 2-2 draw by lowly Toco at Toco yesterday.

St Augustine twice took the lead in the match through Odou Hazel and Kevin Seabrun, but each time, the “Beach Boys” drew level via replies from Kyle Paul and Andron Casanova, a penalty to earn a share of the points.

Despite the drawn result, its second in four matches, the “Green Machine” stayed top of the standings with eight points, one ahead of San Juan North which was also held to a 2-2 draw by visiting Arima North at the Bourg Mulatresse, San Juan ground.

Headley keeps Gasparillo perfect

Gasparillo enhanced its chances of claiming the title in Central with a 1-0 win over Tabaquite at Guaracara Park, Pointe-a-Pierre.

Denton Headley was the man that produced the winner, netting in the 60th minute for Gasparillo’s second win in as many matches.

At Waterloo Ground, Neon O’Garro helped himself to a hat-trick in leading Waterloo past Presentation 5-1. Zithare Newark added a pair of goals for the winners while Kyle St Clair scored for Pres.
