East Mucurapo have a chance to go five points clear atop the BG T&T/First Citizens Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) North Zone standings today when they face St Anthony's College at Westmoorings from 3.45 p.m.

Mucurapo took full advantage of the "Tigers'" bye on the weekend by edging Trinity 2-1. "Compre" will be hoping to upset St Anthony's perfect record and earn some breathing room, with their rest day still to come.

The two schools have had good starts to the 2011 SSFL season, both scoring seven goals, while Mucurapo have conceded two and St Anthony's one. But although the North leaders have won all their encounters, Mucurapo dropped points in their opener against Queen's Royal College (QRC), a 1-1 draw.

In other North Zone matches, Trinity College and Fatima College, both in the bottom half of the table, have a chance to advance up the standings.

Trinity host cellar-placed Malick Secondary at Moka, while Fatima can add to their first points—earned in Saturday's away victory over Malick—if they secure an upset against QRC at their Mucurapo Road home.

The most competitive East Zone fixture today will be that between leaders San Juan North Secondary and El Dorado East Secondary, who meet at Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar.

San Juan have two wins and a draw, while "El Do" shone in the last round against Arima with a 3-0 win.

Defending champs St Augustine Secondary are back in action after a bye and are expected to have a big home victory over Barataria South Secondary, who have so far conceded 31 goals and scored none.

Arima will also look to rebound from their loss against Trinity College East, who have scored two goals and conceded two in three draws, at Arima.

In the Southland, the most interesting clash will feature Shiva Boys Hindu College and Vessigny Secondary at Mahaica Oval in Point Fortin.

Couva West Secondary can maintain their three-point lead in Central, ahead of 2010 champs Carapichaima East Secondary—who have a match in hand—with victory over third-placed Presentation College Chaguanas at Couva.

"Caps" will travel to neighbours Waterloo.

In Tobago, Scarborough Secondary can get ahead of co-leaders Signal Hill Secondary with a trip to Speyside Secondary, with Signal Hill on a bye.

The other Tobago match pits Mason Hall Secondary against Pentecostal Light and Life at Bon Accord. All games kick off at 3.45 p.m.

East Mucurapo, Tigers clash for North lead.
By: Nigel Simon (Guardian).

East Mucurapo and title-holder St Anthony’s College will face off in a top-of-the-table BGTT/First Citizens North Zone Secondary Schools Football League clash at St Anthony’s Ground, Westmoorings from 3.45 pm.

The Selris Figaro-coached  East Mucurapo leads the seven-team North with ten points from four matches following a 2-1 win over Trinity College on Saturday while St Anthony’s, which was on a bye, is next with maximum nine points from three matches going into today’s meeting.

It will also be the first match at its own school ground for the “Westmoorings Tigers” after beating St Mary’s College 3-0 in its season opener, its home encounter at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo. Trinity College will seek to end a string of two straight defeats when it entertains Malick Secondary at Moka.

Malick has yet to gain a point.

Fatima, coming off its first win of the season, 3-1 over Malick travels to Queen’s Royal College, in the other north matches. The Royalians should also be keen to redeem themselves after a 3-4 loss to rivals St Mary’s College in its last outing at home.

In the East Zone, leader San Juan North Secondary with seven points from three matches and buoyed by its 16-0 thrashing of a hapless Barataria South Secondary faces a tougher test in El Dorado East (four points).

The “Blue Thunder” as El Dorado is known is also coming off a morale boosting 3-0 triumph over previous joint leaders, Arima North.

In the other East matches, Arima North is at home to Trinity College East which has drawn its three matches to date, while defending national and zonal champions, St Augustine Secondary, coming off a day off in midweek will host struggling Barataria South, which has conceded 29 goals in its last two matches against Arima North (13-0) and San Juan North (16-0).

Down South, only three points separate the top teams Presentation College, Pleasantville and Shiva Boys’ all with six points each, and Vessigny Secondary (three points).

Today, Presentation, 3-1 victors over defending champions Naparima College  will hope to cement its stay at the top, even if only on goal difference when it comes up against previous leaders Princes Town South (five points) at Princes Town.

In the other matches, Shiva Boys’ and Pleasantville will also be on the road to Vessigny and St Benedict’s College at Pt D’or Recreation Ground and the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella, respectively.

Couva West, the pace setter in the Central Zone with maximum six points after two matches will be keen to continue its perfect record when it plays Presentation College at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

Carapichaima East Secondary, the reigning champion should be well rested for its trip to cellar-placed Waterloo after its match against Gasparillo Secondary was postponed on Saturday while the latter is at home to Tabaquite, which got a surprise 4-1 victory over Presentation last time out.

In Tobago, Scarborough Secondary will have a chance to take sole possession of top spot when it meets Speyside Secondary at Speyside Recreation Ground.

Scarborough and Signal Hill each have six points from two matches and the identical record of goals for and against, however, Signal Hill is on a bye today.

Mason Hall and Pentecostal Light and Life face off in the other match at Bon Accord Recreation Ground.
