St Augustine spanked Toco 4-0 yesterday to advance to Monday’s Coca-Cola Intercol East Zonal semi-final against Arima.

Earlier, at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, Arima ended Barataria’s horrendous season with an 8-0 trouncing.

St Augustine’s captain Jamal Creightan got things going after 29 minutes, placing his right-footed penalty to the left of a flat-footed Donovan White in goal after a handle-ball infringement by Nareem Julien.

Toco resisted and repelled every attack from St Augustine until Creightan took matters in his hands in the 79th, coming up from his central midfield position, he took the ball on the right and sent a swerving left-footer which wrong-footed Julien.

That goal broke the Toco rearguard, and Shaquille Smith added two more to the St Augustine’s score-line.

In the 85th, he met Aikim Andrews’ cross from the right by-line and planted his header to the left of Julien and, three minutes later, he again rose to chest a left-sided centre from Shannon Gomez into the open net.

Defending Central Zonal Intercol winners Carapichaima, who were on a bye yesterday, will face Couva in the semi-final phase on November 16.

Couva earned the right to play in the “semis” after crushing Central Senior Division winners Chaguanas North 4-0 at the Carapichaima School Ground.

Presentation Chaguanas needed kicks from the penalty spot to eliminate Tabaquite 4-3, after the scores were locked at 2-2 at the end of regulation time, in the first game at the Ato Boldon Stadium.

In the latter game of the double-header, Gasparillo breezed past Waterloo 4-0.

Arima storms into East final four.
By Andrew Gioannetti (Guardian).

Arima North Secondary stormed into the East Zone last four in the Coca Cola Intercol with a 9-0 drubbing of Barataria South Secondary at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima, yesterday.

Four different players scored two goals each in a match very similar to the last couple times the two sides met. Barataria, however, improved slightly from the 13-0 and 11-0 results they suffered against the same opponents recently in the league.

Kevin Roberts (20th, 28th), Marcus Gomez (33rd, 34th), Tevin Figaro (38th, 59th) and Darius Rawlins (75th pen, 86th) were all on target twice. Kwame Hazel scored the other goal.

Arima North were up 5-0 before finishing off their opponents with an additional four goals in the second half. Presentation College came from a two goal deficit to defeat Tabaquite on penalty kicks, 4-3, thanks to an added time equaliser from Surej Ramcharan.

Joshua Garcia opened for Tabaquite in the 36th minute, before Keagan Moonessar put the team 2-0 up in the 50th. With 15 minutes to go, Keon Beckles found a response for Presentation. Ramcharan got the final goal from open play to put the match to spot kicks, which “Pres” won 4-3. Presentation will meet Couva West which defeated newly-promoted Chaguanas North 4-0.

Jaffet Williams scored a hat-trick, while Keon Lewis scored the other item. The win put Presentation in the Central semifinal against league champion Carapichaima, next Tuesday.

The final two matches in the South Zone will commence tomorrow with a double-header at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella. Beginning at 3 pm, champion Shiva Boys will take on promoted Senior Division champions Moruga Secondary. The match will be followed by a clash between Pleasantville and Princes Town West.

A tight encounter is expected in the second match as only one goal was scored in the two matches in which the teams met during the league season. The first leg saw a 0-0 stalemate, before Princes Town edged Pleasantville 1-0 at home last month in the second leg.
