St Anthony’s College welcomed newly-promoted Diego Martin North into the Championship Division with a 9-0 thrashing in the Coca-Cola Intercol North Zone quarterfinal at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Wrightson Road, yesterday.

Eight of the nine goals were scored by different players, characteristic of the “Tigers” season which saw a total of 15 different players finding the back of the net.

Surprisingly, no goals were scored in the first 20 minutes. However, when Ajani Clarence, the only player to score a double in the fixture, opened for St Anthony’s, the rout began.

He scored in the 22nd minute, before Kiel Pierre added the Westmoorings team’s second in the 33rd.

The “Tigers” leading goal-scorer for the season Darryl Trim, found the third in the 37th, just minutes before Dwight Ceballo put the team 4-0 at the half. Clarence produced his second item on the hour-mark.

Action slowed until the final 10 minutes, when Jamali Garcia put St Anthony’s up 6-0 from the penalty spot. Substitute Kadeem Riley, Kean McIvor and Moriba Ballah rounded up the scoring within the space of six minutes with a goal each.

St Anthony’s booked their deserved place in the semifinal where they would face the winner of the second double-header fixture on the day, between St Mary’s College and Queen’s Royal College. The semifinal will take place on Wednesday also at the same venue.

In the East Zone Intercol quarterfinal, El Dorado East shunned neighbours El Dorado West 6-0 in the first match of a double-header at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar, Arima.“El Do” East led 5-0 at the half with goals from Shaquille Bertrand, Shakir Cole, Kerron Bethelmy, Keron Noreiga and Dwight Quintero.

The final goal was scored in the 66th minute, again from Quintero for his second item. The match was followed by a San Juan North versus Trinity College East clash, to determine the semifinalist which takes on El Dorado East on Monday at 5 pm. Arima North will take on St Augustine in the other semifinal on Monday at 3 pm.
