A BRACE each from Brent Sam and Justin Garcia kept Defence Force’s dream alive of doing the doubles this year after crushing Queen’s Park 6-1 in the quarter-finals of the T&T Premier Football League Knock-Out tournament at Arima Velodrome on Tuesday night.

Defence Force are in the hunt for more silverware after winning the tier one league crown less than two weeks ago.

The knock-out tournament is featuring both tier one and tier two teams.

Queen’s Park, who are playing in tier two this season, were no match for the Army men.

National striker Reon Moore opened the scoring for Defence Force in the 22nd minute, before Sam notched his first goal of the match with a 29th minute item. Defence Force did not let up as Garcia netted his first of the match with a 34th minute goal.

Former national player Sean De Silva gave Queen’s Park a glimmer of hope with a goal in the 44th minute, but the Parkites still had a mountain to climb trailing 3-1 at half-time.

Any chances of a Queen’s Park comeback was put to bed as Sam scored his second goal in the 47th minute, before Garcia completed his double in the 61st minute.

Rivaldo Coryat, not known for his goal scoring, rounded off the scoring in the 69th minute.

In the second match of the double-header, Terminix La Horquetta Rangers defeated AC Port of Spain 2-1 to book a spot in the semi-finals.

Tyrone Charles converted in the 17th minute and Ross Russell Jnr made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute. Sedale Mclean got a consolation item in stoppage time for AC Port of Spain.

At the Diego Martin Sporting Complex, Police FC progressed in the tournament with a 2-1 victory over Central FC.

Anthony Wolfe and Kadeem Hutchinson scored for Police and finding the back of the net for Central FC was Ricardo John.

On Wednesday, a rescheduled round of 16 match between Tiger Tanks Club Sando and Cunupia FC was held. Club Sando won 1-0 through a 75th minute goal from Nicholas Dillon. Club Sando will now face Heritage Petroleum Pt Fortin Civic in the quarter-finals.
