Stevon “Scrappy” Stoute was in unstoppable form on Saturday, netting a sensational hat-trick as Cunupia FC crushed Edinburgh 500 4-1 in the final of the Hugo Francis Memorial Cup at the Hugo Francis Recreational Ground, Chaguanas.

Cunupia FC, currently unbeaten in the Central Football Association (CFA) League, came out the blocks firing and put the game to bed after just 15 minutes of play. Stoute opened the scoring in the 10th minute and Cunupia doubled their lead just over a minute later with Marcus Ellis finishing off a wonderful move from the team in all-white.

Stoute’s tremendous eye for goal was evident in the 14th, collecting the ball around 35m out, looking up to see the goalkeeper off his line and firing in a blistering rocket that flew into the top left hand corner and out of the goalie’s desperate reach.

The goal not only broke the spirit of the Edinburgh team but proved they were a class beneath on the night.

Edinburgh pulled one back in the second period, though, but there was no stopping the speedy and burly Stoute who capped off a fine performance with a hat-trick.

Substitute Handel Manswell, down the left flank, turned his marker with ease and delivered a teasing cross into the box where Stoute headed home to complete the rout.

Cunupia FC coach, Michael De Four, was an elated man after the game and congratulated his team.

“The game was over after twenty minutes. The team didn’t stand a chance. We dominated the game and had good possession. The team performed well and supported one another offensively and defensively.

‘Scrappy’ played attacking midfield for us and he can see the game really well. We’re not getting swell-headed and we’re taking it one game at a time,” he said.
