A double from Johnathan Sylvester earned debutants’ Boca Juniors a 3-0 win over Standard SC in their final league match of the season to clinch the 2010 Tiger Tanks Unlimited Fyzabad Community Football League top prize of $6,000. Boca Juniors went into the match with 14 points, and needed a win to make certain of the title as New City Youths and New Commers both on 13 pts were hot on their heels going into the final round of competition.

Sylvester opened the scoring in the seventh minute with a superb shot past goalkeeper Nigel Richards before he addeda second in the 43rd min while Darren Alexis then sealed the game for Boca with a 61st minute strike to end with 17 points. In the other matches, New City Youths failed to show for their replay against New Commers on Thursday after their previous game was stopped prematurely due to the injury of a New City Youths player Kevin ‘Elmo’ Charles. This pushed New Commers up the table into second place on 16 pts, one ahead of Avocat United.

n other results, New Commers and Standard SC battled to an entertaining 3-3 draw. For New Commers, Atiba Forde opened the scoring in the fifth minute and three minutes later Andy Alves made it 2-0 but Zwade Sanchez hit back for Standard with goals in the 27th and 32nd mninute to even the match at 2-2. Former Petrotrin United striker Sylvester Teasdale regained the lead for New Commers in the 39th minute only for Stephen Seepersad to drw Standard level again on the stroke of half-time. The second-half failed to live up to the hype of the first 45 minutes as both teams failed to add to thyeir tally and had to settlefor a point each.

When the Knockout tournament kicked off on on the weekend at the Petrotrin Fyzabad Recreation Ground, Boca Juniors and cellar-placed league finishers Gons were in winners row. Kesim Williams (65th & 67th) led Boca with two goals in a 5-2 drubbing of New City Youths on Saturday. Simba Cross (24th), Darren Alexis ( 25th) and Rodney Young (29th) also netted for Boca while Andrew Enil (30th) and Jeremy Primus (53rd) got New City replies.

Gons had the last laugh on Jokers on Sunday as they came away with 2-1 victory led by a double from Kevin Rouse. Rouse scored in the 22nd and 57th minute to cancel out Leon Brown’s 48th minute own goal.

In the semifinals, Gons will meet Boca Juniors today (Saturday) while Standard, 3-0 winners over Re-Creation on Tuesday’s faces Avocat United tomorrow (Sunday), both from 4pm. On Thursday, Avocat defeated New Commers 9-8 on sudden-deathb penalties after a 2-2 draw.
