W Connection FC and Cap Off Youths secured a win and a draw respectively to advance to the semifinal stage of the Central Football Association’s (CFA) annual Youth Indoor Football Competition, which began at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Chaguanas, on Thursday.
The Group A matches saw Cap Off Youths come out on top by virtue of goal difference, after it recorded a 2-0 win over Edinburgh 500, with goals from Shareem Marchan and Jabari Chandler. W Connection also played Edinburgh 500, and won, but by a lone goal.
Claigh Harewood got the only goal in that contest. When the two winners met, W Connection and Cap Off Youths, the match resulted in a goalless draw, seeing the two teams through by Cap Off Youths into the second round stage as group winners.
Group B action in the Under-13 division will continue today with a round robin series of matches between Crown Trace FC, Tabaquite FC, Gairy John and Central FA. The top two teams will advance to the next round, as will the top two teams in Group C, which will be contested on Thursday. Blast FC, El Socorro, Flamengo and Marabella, are the four teams.
At the end of the preliminary stage on Thursday, the top two teams in each group in all three divisions, the U-9, U-11 and U-13, will advance to the semifinals.
On Tuesday, next week, the semifinals and finals will be played.
