Maple Leaf International ended its season on a high, being the only team to evade an assault by North Zone champion, Providence Girls, as the second round of the Girls Secondary Schools Football League came to an end yesterday.

Debe High, Providence Girls, Toco Secondary and Roxborough Secondary have all earned their berth in the national finals of the Secondary School’s Football League after dominating their respective zones for both rounds of the competition.
The second round of the Secondary Schoolgirl’s Football League kicks off today, but respective zonal winners seem to be more or less decided with only the first round of action completed. In the North Zone, Maple Leaf International and St Joseph’s Convent gave away opportunities to dethrone defending champion, Providence, when both suffered defeats at the feet of the Belmont Girls.

Maple Leaf International maintained its unbeaten run in the Girls Secondary Schools’ Football League yesterday, as St Joseph’s Convent succumbed to a disappointing defeat. St Joseph’s defence was penetrated by Carly Coutt, Dominique Campbell and Brianna Winford who were on target. The 3-0 victory puts Maple Leaf in second place, two points behind defending North Zone champ, Providence Girls’, with the deciding battle between the two to be played on Sunday, when they meet at the Queen’s Park Savannah, Port-of-Spain. Providence, meanwhile, made light work of Blanchisseuse, putting a 5-1 thumping on them, as Akesha De La Rosa netted a hat-trick to keep her team at the top.
Roxborough Secondary beat Signal Hill Secondary 3-0 yesterday, to eliminate any chance the defending champion may have had of retaining its title in the Tobago Zone of the Girls Secondary Schools Football League.
Debe High School proved their form in the 2009 Secondary Schools Football League Girls Championship is just as impressive as their dominant season last year, hammering Moruga Secondary 16-0 on Thursday at Debe.
